How to check computer specification – CPU MOTHERBOARD RAM AND WINDOWS

In this topic I’m going to cover how to find your pc specs and how to check cpu and which gen the cpu is and more

If you are fairly new to computers or you are trying to get into pc gaming then a few things you need to check.

If you are looking to upgrade your pc and you want to find out current spec of the pc so you can select the specific upgrade to your computer or you are trying to sell the pc and need to list it in e-commerce website like ebay Facebook or amazon.

Check the CPU AND CPU SPEED:

The first thing you want to know is your computers processor and its speed. Its pretty easy to check and only two clicks away if you are using windows 10. 

Please follow the Steps:

  • Right-click the windows tab in the bottom left-hand corner of your desktop.
  • In the menu that pops up, click ‘System.
  • Under ‘Device Specifications>Processor’ you will see what CPU your computer has and the speed.

Once you find out the cpu information next thing you wanna know is computer graphics 

Checking the GPU:

Gpu is graphics processing unit and its a vital part of the computer. To find out the gpu of the unit you need to follow these steps 

  • Like before right-click the windows icon in the bottom left-hand corner of your desktop
  • From the menu which pops up click on ‘device’ manager 
  • A new window will pop up.
  • click the ‘>’ arrow next to ‘Display adapters’ in ‘device’ manager. 
  • Under the drop-down you will find out which graphics card or built in graphics your computer has

If your computer has a additional graphics card it will show the name and model of the graphics card otherwise it should appear as intel HD graphics and whatever the model is if your computer running intel CPU. 

Checking motherboard information:

Simplest way to check your pc motherboard is open up the computer lid and look at the motherboard itself to check it physically where it will have the brand and model written on the motherboard. 

However, if you are not familiar opening up the pc or you don’t really understand the numbers and letters which is written on the motherboard the. The easy way to check is look on the computer screen.

Do the following to check on the screen:

  • Look for search tab, type ‘System Information’ and press enter
  • On the left-hand side of the ‘System Information’ box highlight the ‘System Summary’ tab
  • In the list on the right-hand side look for ‘Baseboard Manufacturer’ ‘Baseboard Model’ and ‘Baseboard Name’ which tells you everything you need to know about your computers motherboard. 

Checking the memory (RAM) size:

Checking the memory or ram size is easy as checking the cpu and its exactly on the same window as cpu. 

Do the following to check RAM size,

  • Right-click the windows tab in the bottom left-hand corner of your desktop.
  • In the menu that pops up, click ‘System.’

In ‘system’ right after the cpu you will see the RAM size of your computer.

Checking hard drive size:

Checking your hard drive is probably the easiest and most of you probably already know the hard drive size. For those of you who don’t know please follow these steps

To find how much Drive space your PC has, follow these steps bellow:

  • Open a folder and click ‘This PC’ on the left-hand side
  • Navigate to the ‘Local Disk (C:)’ where it should say how much space your storage has and how much free space
  • Right-click ‘Lock disk (C:)’ and select ‘Properties’ if you want to know more of the hard drive space information. 

If you want to find out which hard drive your computer has HDD OR SSD. You can restart your computer and go to bios from there you will find out about hard drive information. 

Now you know the vital information about your computer. If you are trying to sell your computer this information should be more than enough. 

Now if you are looking to upgrade your pc then it gets a bit tricky when it comes to CPU GPU and RAM If you are looking to change the CPU according to your gaming requirements. For instance if your computer has 2nd gen CPU i3 model. You can only upgrade to i5 or i7 second gen. So be sure if your motherboard is compatible with your chosen CPU. Same with the graphics card. There are two types of graphics card. Low profile and high profile.
