
Installing macOS Sequoia on an unsupported Mac involves using the OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP), a tool that enables newer macOS versions to run on older hardware. Here’s a step-by-step guide to assist you:
Prerequisites:
- Verify Mac Model Compatibility: Determine your Mac’s model by clicking the Apple menu > “About This Mac.” Note the model and year, then consult the OpenCore Legacy Patcher supported models list to ensure compatibility.

- Backup Your Data: Before proceeding, back up your data using Time Machine or another backup solution to prevent potential data loss.
- Prepare a USB Drive: Obtain a USB flash drive with at least 20 GB of storage. This will be used to create a bootable installer for macOS Sequoia.
Installation Steps:
- Download OpenCore Legacy Patcher:
- Visit the OpenCore Legacy Patcher GitHub releases page and download the latest version.


- Install the application by opening the downloaded
.pkg
file and following the on-screen instructions. Once you download it extract the file and double click to open up the open core patcher app.


Close the page and update your current mac os to latest version. To update your mac go to apple menu then click on general and the click on software update. Once you update it the installation process will go smoother if you update your current os.
- Create a Bootable macOS Sequoia Installer:
- Launch the OpenCore-Patcher app from your Applications folder.
- In the app’s main window, select “Create macOS Installer.”

Choose “Download macOS Installer” and select macOS Sequoia from the list. The installer will download to your Applications folder as “Install macOS Sequoia.” It will take about 6-7 minutes to download the file and validate.

Insert your USB drive and once your mac has recognise the usb a pop up will appear asking ‘Create macOS installer’. Click YES
Select the macos sequoia you just downloaded and then select the usb from the list. Make sure to unplug any other USB connected to your mac.

- Install OpenCore to the USB Drive: Once the installation process complete a pop up will show saying to install open patcher to usb drive, Click yes . In the OpenCore-Patcher app, select “Build and Install OpenCore. “Click “Build OpenCore,” then “Install OpenCore.”


Make sure to select USB drive from the list.
- Boot from the USB Installer:
- Restart your Mac and hold down the Option (⌥) key during startup to access the boot menu.
- Select “EFI Boot” with the OpenCore icon to boot from the USB installer.
- Once the macOS Utilities screen appears, choose “Install macOS” and follow the on-screen instructions to install macOS Sequoia on your desired drive.

- Post-Installation:
- After installation, boot from the USB drive’s “EFI Boot” option again.
- Once macOS has loaded, open the OpenCore-Patcher app.
- Select “Post-Install Root Patch” to apply necessary patches for your hardware.
- After patching, install OpenCore to your Mac’s internal drive to enable booting without the USB installer:
- In the OpenCore-Patcher app, select “Build and Install OpenCore.”
- Install it to your internal drive’s EFI partition as you did before on the USB drive.
- Final Steps:
- Restart your Mac, this time booting from the internal drive.
- Your Mac should now load macOS Sequoia successfully.

- Software Updates: When updating macOS Sequoia, always check for the latest version of OpenCore Legacy Patcher and apply any necessary post-install patches after updating.
- Potential Risks: Running macOS on unsupported hardware can lead to instability or unsupported features. Ensure you understand the risks and have backups of your data.
